Outline of job description

Background to the post
The Assisi House Project (AHP) provides accommodation and support for men who have been homeless. The Project comprises a 6-bed hostel, 4 move-on flats, operating a floating support service to 10 men in their own homes.
We also provide a drop-in Centre and a developing social enterprise called Travelling Light, which provides outreach musical activities & recording studio facilities to homelessness and related services across the Yorkshire and Humber district.
AHP is also involved in a range of partnership work in the Bradford district around developing new initiatives for homeless people. The Project Manager (PM) is the most senior employee in the organisation.

Primary objectives of the post
  1. To work with the existing staff team to maintain a high quality housing support service at the hostel and move on flats.
  2. To take a lead in business and development planning for the organisation.
  3. To support the development of the floating support service.
  4. To provide line management to the day support work at the Assisi Centre and St Mary's drop in.
  5. To work with the staff team to maintain continuous improvement in accommodation service provision.
  6. To represent the AHP at various fora with a range of external partners and stakeholders

Supervision/Management responsibilities
The post holder will be line managed by a member of the Management Committee.
The PM will have responsibility for supervising a staff team which comprises 3 Housing Support Workers, 1 Floating Support Worker, 1 Administrator, 1 Travelling Light development worker ,1 Domestic Officer, and a number of sessional workers and volunteers. (All of these are part time apart from 1 HSW.)

Decision making
The post holder will be responsible for day to day management of all services.
Work with the rest of the staff team to make day to day decisions.
They will be expected to work within current AHP policy and guidelines at all times.
They will be expected to work within the existing staff rota arrangements.

Assets, materials
The worker will be responsible for the safe keeping of materials and equipment owned by AHP, including cash.
They will adhere to the AHP policies regarding health and safety and confidentiality.

Range of duties
  1. Responsibility for the day to day staffing and management of the accommodation and day support projects.
  2. Responsibility for processing referrals to the accommodation services and decision making with respect to service user move on and evictions.
  3. To support staff in their support planning with service users and to work towards incorporating any new Supporting People monitoring system into the support planning process.
  4. To provide staff with supervision and appraisal in line with AHP policies.
  5. Responsibility for maintaining all the necessary record keeping, including processing of referrals, details of support planning, health and safety testing, finances, funders monitoring requirements and staff hours.
  6. To adhere to all existing AHP policies and procedures.
  7. To ensure that all policies and procedures are regularly reviewed.
  8. To work with the staff team to identify and implement service developments necessary to achieve level B in the Supporting People Quality Assurance Framework.
  9. To attend and report to Management Committee meetings and working parties.
  10. To participate in and to develop a range of partnership activities.
  11. To develop and maintain the AHP business plan.
  12. To submit funding applications to develop the work of the AHP.
  13. To ensure the effective running of the weekly AHP staff meetings.
  14. To ensure Assisi House representation at inter agency working parties and partnership initiatives.
  15. To ensure that the existing 24/7 on call arrangements for hostel residents are maintained efficiently.
  16. To undertake any other activities or duties as directed by the Management Committee that are relevant to the development and smooth running of the AHP.
Conditions of employment
• Salary: SCP 33 £26,835
• The post is for 37 hours per week.
• 25 days, plus 8 bank holidays leave/year.
• The precise working hours will be negotiated with the Management Committee upon taking up the post. The post will involve working some unsocial hours, e.g. providing week end or evening cover, as needed by the project.
• Depending on their chosen form of transport, the worker will be able to claim travel costs at the Local Authority casual car users or cyclists rate.
• The Assisi House Project offers an occupational pension scheme including employer contributions.
